We’ve all seen a movie with the cheesy main character who has a little devil pop up on his shoulder. And then the angel appears and the banter begins. Comic relief. But here’s a little secret: underneath the chuckles is some real, raw truth. You are the main character in your movie of life…and you constantly have choices to make that determine your destiny.

Daily Decisions

Beep! Beep! Beep! You grudgingly roll over and hit the snooze button. Just 10 more minutes. And then again. An hour later, you jump out of bed, generously apply dry shampoo and run out the door. Sorry, no breakfast. Oh—and you’re late to work…again. In your hurry to run out the door, you forgot an important part of your presentation, so you wing it. No one is impressed. McDonalds for lunch again and then energy drinks to keep your eyelids from giving up on you the rest of the afternoon. Finally, its 5 pm. The couch and your favorite show consume the rest of your night. Tomorrow, repeat.Enter that little angel. The alarm sounds and you make the choice to get out of bed to stretch. Your body, mind, and soul thank you. A quick morning jog and then avocado toast and a protein shake for breakfast. Delicious. You pull on your new suit for your big presentation day and confidently arrive at work 10 minutes early. Your presentation will eventually earn you a promotion and the respect of all your colleagues. That night, you try a new recipe and take it to your neighbor. You spend the evening laughing with them and then read a good book before bed. Peace, joy. And a drive to do it all over again tomorrow. It’s the little things, my friend. All of us have 24 hours in a day. That’s 1440 minutes to determine our actions—which inner voice we listen to, how we connect with others, and how we rejuvenate our souls. Decisions, decisions. But ultimately, what we seek is joy.

Finding Joy Through Time Management

Joy. How often do we forfeit lasting happiness because of our jam-packed day? Or maybe we give in to the cozy comfort of laziness. For Whom the Alarm Clock Tolls, an episode from “The Happiness Lab” teaches us about why the people of the medieval times experienced such joy; they were masters of their own time. Hard workers, devoted to worship, with only the sun and the church chimes to dictate their schedule. Regular walks discussing philosophy and meals with family. A simple time.I know my life would look drastically different if I could just listen to that inner voice. If I could have a connection with nature and heaven that would bring peace and joy to the daily mundane duties called life. If I could just stop pushing snooze. So dig deep with me, my friend. Find the drive and decide to make a change. You may be the main character of this life movie, but you’re also the director. Decisions, decisions.
