Anxiety is your body’s natural response to potentially harmful or worrying triggers. Anxiety can present itself in ways such as agitation, controlling behaviors, restlessness, and the inability to focus. Regardless of how anxiety may show up in a person’s life, it can be a crippling experience. It can leave a person in constant worry or fear of the uncertainties that life carries, and it robs a person of experiencing pure peacefulness in their life. When it comes to anxiety, there isn’t one specific thing that cures it completely or stops those intense thoughts from resurfacing. There is, however, a way to make anxiety more manageable through spirituality. There are healing powers that lie within our spirituality. These healing powers can combat anxiety and release the mind from crippling thoughts. Being actively engaged within our spirituality will remind us of our place in the world as spiritual beings and provide calm when things begin to feel frantic. There are many ways people can tap into their spirituality when anxiety starts to creep into the mind. If you or someone you know struggles with anxiety, use these tips to release anxiety, and restore serenity back into your life.

Surrender your thoughts to the Universe.

When you find yourself spiraling into anxiety, being able to stop yourself in your thoughts and surrender them removes the weight of those thoughts. Stop yourself and say, “ These thoughts aren’t helpful in any way, and I’m done with them.” By recognizing and releasing these anxious thoughts, you stand confidently in knowing that by surrendering your worries to the Universe, you rely on a high power to carry you above your negative thoughts. There is great relief in knowing that a higher power is guiding you. Look at surrendering your thoughts as a way of asking for help

Practice gratitude.

By focusing on the abundances of life and being thankful for all that life has given you, your mind becomes less consumed with what’s working against you and more focused on what’s working in your favor. By reminding yourself of all the good there is around you, your vibration is uplifted with positive and happy emotions.Gratitude is not only about being thankful for the positive experiences we have in life, but also about finding gratitude within the challenges we face. When you are able to find gratitude even in difficulties, you gain a deeper understanding of why things have to happen the way they do. Finding gratitude no matter what the circumstances are will make coping with your anxieties easier because you understand the greater purpose some of those feelings may carry.

Finding stillness.

Anxiety can make the world around us feel unbearable, and the emotions that flow can be draining. Finding stillness allows us to take our mind, body, and soul to a place of quietness. In this place, we can sort out the thoughts we are having and examine them carefully. Sometimes the best way to face the things that scare us is to face them directly, and stillness allows us to be present with the emotion’s anxiety may bring out of us. Work with your anxiety mindfully through stillness. This can be done by paying attention to your body and how it feels when experiencing anxious thoughts, moving from distracting environments to quiet ones, and building time in your day to be still for a moment. Stillness is about quieting the mind, and how this is done can vary from person to person.

Living our values.

Part of our spirituality is committing ourselves to values we find meaningful to who we ultimately want to be. Once we commit ourselves to our values, we set out to live a life that carries out purpose. The values we set for our lives serve as a reminder of why we must leave anxious thoughts and feelings behind. Some of these values include wanting to be a loving spouse, a compassionate friend, or and understanding parent. By allowing our values to lead us, we become more focused on what we should be doing to get the results we want and less concerned with anything that may be trying to stop us from reaching those goals. Committing to the values we set for ourselves takes practices, and there will be times when anxious thoughts become overwhelming. The most important thing to remember when this happens is knowing how to let them go, return to your values, and remember what truly matters. The path of healing anxiety is a spiritual path. Have patience with yourself. Anxiety isn’t something that can be fixed overnight, and it isn’t something you can turn on and off. Using your spirituality and unlocking its healing powers will allow you to control your anxiety and train yourself to reject the negative energies that come with it. Anxiety is our body’s way of telling us that something is wrong, but we can learn how to shift out of this state of mind through spiritually mindful practices.
