There are a lot of things in life that are uncomfortable to face. Maybe you have to move to a new city, have just graduated from college with no idea of what's next, or you're thinking about making a career switch. As uncomfortable as those things may feel at the moment, you learn to adjust, and then after a while, they don't feel so uncomfortable anymore. You see, those moments of you being uncomfortable led you to overcome change, and because of that, you grew from that experience. To live life to its fullest, we have to be willing to step into the unknown, which means being okay with the uncomfortable moments in life. As human beings, we seek comfort to feel calm and balanced, but growth cannot happen when we are comfortable. Being uncomfortable will allow us to break new ground, and this can lead to new heights spiritually. It challenges us to step out and trust a force much larger than ourselves. But how do we do it? It starts with intentionally stepping outside of our comfort zone. Here's how.

Show up.

It's natural to avoid things that make us uncomfortable, and the thought of failing in something scares us. We have to be willing to show up to those things without the pressure of our fears. We can't let the "what ifs," fear of failure, or expectations prevent us from showing up to a challenge. Our willingness to show up will become our power to keep showing up, no matter what may lie in front of us.

Start small.

No one expects you to jump out into the unknown and start conquering the things that make you uncomfortable. Trying to conquer too much too fast can become overwhelming and discourage you from really stepping outside of your comfort zone. Look for small things you can do. For example, if you're looking to grow more spiritually, try reading a book on spiritual growth or finding new ways to invite spirituality into your everyday life. Starting small will make it easier to step outside of your comfort zone because it will feel more obtainable.

Try something new, often.

Be open to new experiences and ideas. Empower yourself to step outside of your norms to try something you never thought you would find interest in. When you try something new, your fears of being uncomfortable will take a backseat, and your sense of adventure heightens. The more you try, the more you will learn, and the more you will learn about yourself as an individual. New experiences will increase your connection to yourself, others, and the world around you.Society has made it very easy for us to avoid the things that challenge us spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable means we stop avoiding things that aren't easy to face and recognize the value of our discomfort. Analyze the situation you're in and look for the silver lining of those uncomfortable moments. Think about what overcoming this challenge would mean to who you are as a spiritual being. Would it make you stronger? Would it ground you more in your beliefs? Would it build your resilience to stand firm in the world?Recognizing the value in your discomfort will help you understand why the Universe saw you fit for the challenge. There is timing to all that the Universe has for you, and it will take getting uncomfortable to realize your highest potential. There is beauty in the struggle, and some of the greatest lessons life can teach us are found outside of our comfort zones. Remember to be kind to yourself on this journey as you move away from what's familiar and predictable to fulfillment and excitement.
